Reception

We went on a walk around our local area as part of our topic ‘On Our Doorstep’. We saw the cafe, shop, library, church, restaurant and the park.

We raised money for Red Nose Day by wearing something red.

We had a great time celebrating World Book Day. Class 2 dressed up as their favourite book character and brought in their books. It was great to have some of our parents come in to share books with us too!

This week the local Fire Fighters came in to visit us. We found out what they do in their jobs to help us. We got to sit in the Fire engine and got to hear the siren!

One of our parents who is a dentist came in to talk to us about how to keep our teeth healthy. We learnt why it is good to visit a dentist and what happens when you go.

This week we had our local Police Officers come to visit us. They came to talk about how they help people in our community.

We had a fantastic visit from the Poet - Paul Cookson.

We really enjoyed a visit from Poet Paul Cookson. He read us lots of his poems and some were very funny! He has even inspired us to create our own class poem.

We have been learning all about how people celebrate Chinese New Year. Look at our music performance to a Chinese New Year song.

We have done lots of fun activities to celebrate Chinese New Year.

This week we read Giraffes can’t dance by Giles Andreae. We discussed how everyone is different, how to embrace our differences and build confidence to do things. We learnt how to draw a giraffe, look at our fantastic pictures.

Beat Feet came in to do an African Drumming Workshop with us. We had great fun learning how to play the African drums and how they were made.

We read Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne. We got to feel, taste, weigh and draw the fruit from the story. We made our own yummy fruit salad too.

We have been having fun looking for African animals in our safari hideout! We have been using the globe and maps Africa to look at where the animals live. We have also been learning how to draw a lion.

We really enjoyed having our Christmas dinner. We also had a great time dancing at the Christmas party and even got to meet Santa!

We have been getting ready for Christmas.

We have been exploring toys from the past. The children have been looking at what they are made of.

We have made leaf men inspired by the book ‘Leaf Man’ by Lois Ehlert.

We made hedgehogs from clay and then made a home for them to hibernate in.

We had a lovely time visiting the park as part of topic ‘Autumn All Around’.

Thank you everyone for all the donations for Children in Need.

We made some fantastic natural sculptures inspired by the artist ‘Andy Goldsworthy’.

People watch fireworks displays for Bonfire night and Diwali. We used musical instruments to make the sounds of fireworks.

We have been learning all about how and why people celebrate the festival Diwali. We have made Divas, Rangoli and Mehndi patterns.

Class 2 have had fun creating using their own ideas.

We read Elmer by David McKee. We discussed how we are the same and how we are different. We made patterns on Elmer and made sure they were all different.

Harvest song

We have been learning about Harvest Festival. We hope you enjoy listening to our Harvest song!

We read the book ‘It’s ok to be different’ by Todd Parr. We talked about inspiring the children to embrace their individuality. We looked at who we live with and described our hair colour and skin colour.
